The recent sale of LaStrada Entertainment’s publishing catalog to Reservoir Media was a significant move, but I can’t help thinking it was a misstep for the seller. Don’t get me wrong—Reservoir is a solid company with great people—but they’re not known for being the most “aggressive” buyers when it comes to valuations. The real missed opportunity here? The fact that other major buyers, ones willing to pay top dollar, likely didn’t even get a chance to bid. For a catalog with iconic works like “Love Will Keep Us Together” and “More Bounce to the Ounce,” this should have been a competitive process.
Whoever represented the seller undervalued this asset by going with a closed-door approach. You only get one chance to sell your legacy—why not maximize it?
